Empowering disadvantaged young women in Iran

About Us

The Omid Foundations were established to help vulnerable young women in Iran to transform their lives. The center in Tehran takes some of the most vulnerable, abused and neglected girls and works with them to give them the tools they need to lead happy and productive lives.

The Omid-e-Mehr center takes the best teachers and psychologists in Tehran to provide therapy and education for over 150 girls at any one time. Our unique holistic approach helps the young girls achieve self-awareness, self-determination and self-sufficiency.

We value and nurture the voices, hearts, and minds of these underprivileged and vulnerable young women and help them transform their lives.

We help girls like Nasrin who left home at 14 to escape the abuse of her step-father. Her own father, a heroin addict and drug dealer, abandoned her and her mother when she was only three. Nasrin was moved from one Behzisti (local authority) home to another before coming to the Omid-e-Mehr center. She was extremely angry and destructive when she first came to us but has now changed dramatically. She has finished high school, is attending university preparatory classes, and is determined to make a career for herself as a lawyer. She is no longer angry and she has been reunited with her brother and grandmother, and is now also a regular visitor at her mother's house.

We believe that through love and care in the context of sustained relationships where practical and emotional needs are addressed, the girls will be able to overcome the traumas of the past and work towards a better future.

We couple this with excellent educational opportunities and our graduates become highly valued employees with many going on to top professions and university.
